The architectural future of Iași, one of Romania’s historic cities, is being rewritten by an international architecture competition. Iulius Group wants to design an architectural ensemble in the city centre in the spirit of contemporary architecture, but with respect and reverence for the past. Four global architecture offices – Foster&Partners, MVRDV, UN Studio and Zaha Hadid Architects – competed. During a two-day event, their solutions were presented and discussed with the residents of Iasi, the architectural community, the academia, the civil society and the media.
We were proud to communicate this unique approach for Romania, intended to reset the public conversation about architecture and urban regeneration, not only in Iași, but at national level.

We were back to BSDA after four years, together with our defence partners: MBDA and Thales. Interesting expo, good meetings, curious visitors and the feeling that we need more offline events like this one.

The 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer reveals that nearly 1 out of 2 respondents view government and media as divisive forces in society. Through disinformation and division, these two institutions are feeding the cycle of distrust and exploiting it for commercial and political gain. Also, business must work with all institutions to foster innovation and drive impact as people have greater expectation of business to lead and to address societal problems.
How can THE CYCLE OF TRUST be restored? By demonstrating tangible progress – showing that the system works; by focusing on long-term thinking; by providing credible information.

Watchkeeper, the largest UAS programme in Europe

In July 2021, U-TacS (Unmanned Air Systems experts and the UK's commercial leader in Tactical UAS design, manufacture, deployment and support) and Aerostar S.A. Bacau signed the document that lays the foundations of the Watchkeeper Consortium - a Consortium for the development in Romania of the largest tactical drone program in Europe. We helped spreading the word in the media. Journalists were invited to this event held at Aerostar S.A. headquarters in Bacau and the news was everywhere on national press: daily news publications, economic platforms, defence outlets and local media.

Mediul de business a luat locul Guvernului și este acum cea mai de încredere instituție, fiind considerată de două ori mai competentă.

Sondajul realizat după alegerile din SUA arată că majoritatea americanilor cred că țara lor se află în mijlocul unui război civil rece periculos.

Barometrul de Încredere Edelman 2021 dezvăluie faptul că oamenii nu știu unde sau la cine să apeleze pentru informații sigure. Majoritatea respondenților consideră că liderii guvernamentali (57%), liderii din mediul de business (56%) și jurnaliștii (59%) încearcă în mod deliberat să inducă oamenii în eroare spunând lucruri despre care știu că sunt false. Infodemia globală a făcut ca încrederea în toate sursele de știri să ajungă la cote minime record. Social media (35%) și blogurile (41%) sunt creditate cu cea mai mică încredere, în timp ce mass-media tradiționale (53%) au înregistrat cea mai mare scădere a încrederii, de opt puncte. Un sondaj realizat de Edelman după alegerile din SUA arată un decalaj uriaș, de 39 de puncte, între încrederea acodată mass-media de alegătorii Biden (57%) și alegătorii Trump (18%).

„Aceasta este epoca falimentului informațional”, spune Richard Edelman - CEO Edelman. „Am fost mințiți de cei care ne conduc, iar mass-media sunt văzute ca fiind politizate și părtinitoare. Rezultatul este o penurie de informații de calitate și o scindare sporită. 57% dintre americani cred că polarizarea politică și ideologică este atât de extremă, încât consideră că SUA se află într-un război civil rece. Asaltul violent asupra Capitoliului și faptul că doar o treime dintre oameni sunt dispuși să se vaccineze împotriva COVID-19 cât mai curând posibil cristalizează pericolele dezinformării."

Mediul de afaceri (61%) a devenit cea mai de încredere instituție, înlocuind guvernul (53%), care a scăzut considerabil după ce, în luna mai a anului trecut, avea o creștere de 11 puncte. Mediul de afaceri este singura instituție considerată etică și competentă; depășește guvernul cu 48 de puncte în ceea ce privește competența și se apropie de ONG-uri în materie de etică. În ultimele cinci luni, mediul de afaceri a preluat conducerea în materie de încredere dezvoltând în mod proactiv vaccinuri în timp record și găsind noi metode pentru munca în pandemie. Încrederea continuă să se concentreze la nivel micro, respondenții bazându-se și mai mult pe angajator (76%) și pe CEO (63%).

Corina Vinţan, CEO Links Associates - afiliat Edelman: „După un an marcat de pandemie, puternice fluctuații economice și un sentiment acut de anxietate, încrederea oamenilor este zdruncinată. Liderii și instituțiile sunt privite cu scepticism, iar infodemia care a luat avânt odată cu pandemia COVID-19 alimentează această neîncredere generalizată. Barometrul de Încredere Edelman 2021 surprinde acest fenomen și trage un semnal de alarmă. Mediul de business, guvernele, ONG-urile, mass-media trebuie să ia măsuri pentru a reconstrui încrederea atât de necesară într-o perioadă care rămâne deosebit de complicată. Un pas important în acest sens este combaterea infodemiei, de o manieră constantă și asumată, cu toate instrumentele pe care aceste instituții le au la îndemână”.

Barometrul de anul acesta arată că cea mai mare oportunitate pentru mediul de afaceri să câștige încredere este păstrarea calității informațiilor. 53% dintre respondenți consideră că, atunci când presa este absentă, corporațiile trebuie să umple golul de informații. Informațiile primite de la angajator sunt cea mai de încredere sursă (61%), depășindu-le pe cele furnizate de guvernul național (58%), de mass-media tradiționale (57%) și de social media (39%).

“Evenimentele de anul trecut au dus la creșterea responsabilității mediului de afaceri de a se implica în problemele societății, precum specializarea angajaților și egalitatea pe criterii de rasă”, a declarat Edelman. “De asemenea, au creat noi așteptări pentru mediul de afaceri să se implice în domenii care nu țin de activitatea curentă, cum ar fi oferirea de informații și asigurarea calității informației”.

Nivelul de încredere în cele mai mari două economii ale lumii a scăzut dramatic. Respondenți din 26 de state participante la studiu au declarat că nu au încredere în administrația din SUA (40%) și în guvernul din China (30%). Încrederea în rândul cetățenilor chinezi în instituțiile țării a scăzut cu 18 puncte în ultimele șase luni, la 72%. În SUA, încrederea a scăzut cu încă 5 puncte imediat după alegeri (la 43%).

Având în vedere noile așteptări, apar și noi solicitări la adresa președinților de companii: peste 8 din 10 respondenți consideră că aceștia trebuie să ia atitudine pe teme sociale importante, cum ar fi impactul pandemiei. Mai mult de două treimi dintre respondenți se așteaptă ca președinții de companii să acționeze atunci când guvernele nu o fac, pentru a remedia probleme.

“Există un gol de leadership pe care președinții de companii trebuie să îl umple”, a declarat Dave Samson, Vicepreședinte Corporate Affairs Edelman. “Mediul de afaceri trebuie să se ridice la nivelul misiunii unui actor important în economie, dar companiile nu pot face totul singure. Trebuie să aibă ca parteneri guvernul și ONG-uri în acțiuni colective care să rezolve problemele societății”.

Alte concluzii importante ale Barometrului de Încredere Edelman 2021:

Doar unul din patru respondenți caută informații de calitate; evită așa-numitele camere de ecou; verifică informația și nu promovează informații neconfirmate.

Printre acei respondenți, care nu sunt interesați ca informațiile să fie verificate și de calitate, există o lipsă profundă de interes pentru vaccinare în primul an de disponibilitate (59% vs. 70% dintre respondenții atenți la informațiile pe care le consumă).

56% cred că pandemia va accelera rata cu care companiile vor înlocui angajații cu sisteme bazate pe Inteligență Artificială sau roboți.

52% dintre respondenții care au posibilitatea de a alege să lucreze de acasă sau de la birou, aleg să lucreze de acasă.

Experții din mediul academic (59%) și specialiștii din cadrul companiilor (59%) rămân cei mai credibili purtători de cuvânt, deși încrederea de care se bucură a scăzut cu 8, respectiv, 10 puncte.

Barometrul de Încredere Edelman 2021 este cel de-al 21-lea studiu anual de încredere și credibilitate. Sondajul a fost realizat de Edelman Data & Intelligence și a constat în interviuri online de 30 de minute, efectuate în perioada 19 octombrie - 18 noiembrie 2020. Studiul a fost realizat pe un eșantion de peste 33.000 de respondenți, care include 1.150 de respondenți ai populației generale din 28 de țări și câte 200 de respondenți informați în fiecare țară, cu excepția Chinei și SUA, care au avut fiecare câte un eșantion de 500 de respondenți informați. Toți respondenții informați au respectat următoarele criterii: vârsta cuprinsă între 25-64 de ani; studii superioare; venit de nivel superior specific vârstei lor, în țara lor; care citesc și urmăresc știrile și presa de business de cel puțin câteva ori pe săptămână; urmăresc în presă subiecte de politică publică de cel puțin câteva ori pe săptămână. 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer: A growing sense of inequity is undermining trust

The 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer reveals that despite a strong global economy and near full employment, a majority of respondents in every developed market do not believe they will be better off in five years’ time, and 56 percent believe that capitalism in its current form is now doing more harm than good in the world.

“We are living in a trust paradox,” said Richard Edelman, CEO of Edelman. “Since we began measuring trust 20 years ago, economic growth has fostered rising trust. This continues in Asia and the Middle East but not in developed markets, where national income inequality is now the more important factor. Fears are stifling hope, and long-held assumptions about hard work leading to upward mobility are now invalid.”

The concerns are wide-ranging and deep. Most employees (83 percent) globally are worried about job loss due to automation, a looming recession, lack of training, cheaper foreign competition, immigration and the gig economy. Fifty-seven percent of respondents worry about losing the respect and dignity they once enjoyed in their country. Nearly two in three feel the pace of technological change is too fast. And there is no agreed-on truth; 76 percent say they worry about fake news being used as a weapon.

A record number of countries are experiencing an all-time high “mass-class” trust divide, spreading from developed into the developing world. Globally, there is a 14-point gap between the informed public (65) and the mass population (51). There are double-digit gaps in 23 markets, including Australia (23 points), France (21 points), Saudi Arabia (21 points), Germany (20 points), the UK (18 points) and Spain (17 points).

Business (58 percent) is the most trusted institution, taking the lead role in global governance. The recent decisions by the Business Roundtable to endorse a stakeholder model for American multinationals, the initiation of Business for Inclusive Growth focused on fair wages by French multinationals and the Business Ambition for 1.5°C recognize the broader responsibility of the corporation.

“Business has leapt into the void left by populist and partisan government,” said Edelman. “It can no longer be business as usual, with an exclusive focus on shareholder returns. With 73 percent of employees saying they want the opportunity to change society, and nearly two-thirds of consumers identifying themselves as belief-driven buyers, CEOs understand that their mandate has changed.”

CEOs are expected to lead from the front. Ninety-two percent of employees say CEOs should speak out on issues of the day, including retraining, the ethical use of technology and income inequality. Three-quarters of the general population believe CEOs should take the lead on change instead of waiting for government to impose it.

“People’s expectations of institutions have led us to evolve our model for measuring trust,” said Edelman. “Trust today is granted on two distinct attributes: competence (delivering on promises) and ethical behavior (doing the right thing and working to improve society). It is no longer only a matter of what you do—it’s also how you do it.”

This year’s results reveal that none of the four institutions is seen as both competent and ethical. Business ranks highest in competence, holding a massive 54-point edge over government as an institution that is good at what it does (64 percent vs. 10 percent). NGOs lead on ethical behavior over government (a 31-point gap) and business (a 25-point gap). Government is perceived as both incompetent and unethical but is trusted more than twice as much as business to protect the environment and close the income inequality gap.

Media is also viewed as incompetent and unethical: a majority (57 percent) don’t believe the media does a good job of differentiating opinion and fact but find them invaluable on covering news (58 percent).

“After tracking 40 global companies over the past year through our Edelman Trust Management framework we’ve learned that ethical drivers such as integrity, dependability and purpose drive close to 76 percent of the trust capital of business, while competence accounts for only 24 percent,” said Antoine Harary, president of Edelman Intelligence. “Trust is undeniably linked to doing what is right. The battle for trust will be fought on the field of ethical behavior.”

Other key findings from the 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer include:

  • Both business and government can take specific actions to achieve a higher trust score. Respondents expect business to focus on paying fair wages and retraining. For government, the actions include reducing partisanship, addressing community-level problems and partnering with business and NGOs.
  • Local/state government (54 percent) is more trusted than central/federal government (51 percent).
  • While government remains tied with media as the least trusted institution, it is the group most believe is best suited to address the issues of healthcare (53 percent); income inequality (51 percent); immigration (48 percent); harmful products (42 percent); and inclusion (41 percent).
  • Technology (75 percent) remained the most trusted sector but saw the biggest drop globally at four points. Several markets experienced dramatic drops, including France (-10 points), Canada (-8 points), Italy (-8 points), Singapore (-8 points), Russia (-8 points) and the U.S. (-7 points). And technology is no longer the most trusted sector in 9 of the 28 markets we survey, including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Russia, Ireland, Singapore, The Netherlands and the UK.
  • No institution has a vision for the future that a majority of respondents believe in: government (35 percent); media (35 percent); business (41 percent); NGOs (45 percent).

The 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer is the firm’s 20th annual trust and credibility survey. The survey was powered by research firm Edelman Intelligence and consisted of 30-minute online interviews conducted between October 19 and November 18, 2019. The 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer online survey sampled more than 34,000 respondents, which includes 1,150 general population respondents across 28 markets and 200 informed public respondents in each market, except China and the U.S., which have a sample of 500 informed public respondents each. All informed public respondents met the following criteria: aged 25-64, college-educated; household income in the top quartile for their age in their country; read or watch business/news media at least several times a week; follow public policy issues in the news at least several times a week.
