Edelman Trust Barometer 2026 – A world retreating towards insularity

“Globally, we have gone from dissatisfaction and grievance to insularity, living and working in our own bubbles with ever-decreasing empathy and understanding for those who are different, and ever-decreasing trust in people, institutions and organisations. This trust must be rebuilt, even if it seems like we are running out of time. The Edelman Barometer also offers a way forward. The study shows that the business environment, or ‘my employer’, is seen as a facilitator that can reconnect different groups and thus restore trust. For the first time, the business environment is perceived as more ethical than NGOs. This is a call for action and responsibility for business leaders, who must take on the role of mediators in society” – Corina Vințan, CEO Links Associates.
